Fish Tank Filter Supplies

Fish Tank Filter Supplies Guide

Aquariums are beloved possessions in many households. Everyone likes to decorate his or her aquarium in a perfect manner. But along with beauty maintenance is also very important for an aquarium. There are a number of aquarium accessories which are available in the market and are needed for maintenance purposes. But the most important aquarium accessory that is essential for the health and growth of your fish is a water filter.

In fact water filter, along with a water heater is the most important part of any fish tank. Without a filter a fish tank will not be able to survive for a long time. Filters help you in maintaining the proper water quality inside the fish tank. Filters help to free the tank water from fish waste, dirt and other harmful chemicals. Sometimes the tank water may appear to be perfectly clean through our naked eyes. But still the water may carry chemicals and bacteria which can greatly harm your fish.

Caring for your Aquarium is like any other sort of pet care. In order to keep your pets happy, you need to make sure their living area is clean and has all the necessary elements to keep them happy. This applies to fish as well as other pets.

You need to make sure you get special filters, depending if you have either a fresh water aquarium, or saltwater fish tanks. So make sure you know the difference here.

Fish tank filters supplies are generally available in two varieties. Among these two varieties of filters one is internal and the other is external. Both of these varieties can be used in cases of fresh water aquariums as well as salty water ones.

Internal Filter
There are some aquarium filters which are placed inside the fish tank. Internal filters are basically of two types. One variety is an under grovel filter which is generally used in fresh water aquariums. This type of filter is made of plastic grates which are placed at the bottom of the fish tank and the gravel is situated at the top. There are vertical tubes in this type of filter which are attached to the holes in the filter. The gravel plays the role of the filter which gathers the waste and dirt which is pulled inside it.
The other type of internal filter which is available in the market is used mainly for salty water fish tanks. It resembles a sump tank which is placed below the main tank. This filter has a tube attached to it which pulls water into the sump tank where the water runs into the process of filtering. After that the filtered water is again pumped back in to the main tank.

External Filters

External filters are the most popular filter types for most aquariums. In these aquarium filters the filtering process takes place outside the tank and the filtered water is kept separate from the filtered water as long as the former is not returned to the tank again. But though this type of filters serves the purpose best but they are relatively quite expensive and everyone can not afford to pay such amount.

Fish tank filter supplies are generally easily available in most of the fish shops but you may face some problems in getting hold of the expensive ones sometimes. But one thing is for sure that though the external filters are expensive but the maintenance cost for this type of filters are lower than the internal filters. The health of your fish will also be more secured if you use the external filters.
